1. Container Size and Weight Restrictions

• Size Requirements: Primarily accepts ISO-standard containers such as 20-foot, 40-foot, and 40-foot high-cube containers.

• Weight Limits:

  • The gross weight of a single container generally must not exceed 30.48 metric tons, though port-specific limits (e.g., Busan Port’s 28-ton limit) may apply.

  • Railway transport requires separate confirmation of weight restrictions.

  
  

2. Documentation and Customs Clearance Requirements

• Mandatory Documents:

  • Bill of Lading

  • Commercial Invoice

  • Packing List

  • Certificate of Origin

  • Korean Customs Import Declaration

  
  

• Special Certifications:

  • Electrical and electronic products require KC Certification (Korean safety certification).

  • Food and pharmaceuticals must be approved by MFDS, and plant products require phytosanitary certificates.

  
  

3. Dangerous Goods and Special Cargo

• Dangerous goods transportation must comply strictly with the IMDG Code, with advance submission of dangerous goods declarations to Korean customs.

• Refrigerated containers must meet Korean standards (e.g., KS B 6302) and provide temperature records.

4. Labeling and Marking

• Containers must be labeled with:

  • Container number

  • Dangerous goods labels (if applicable)

  • Port of destination and consignee information

  
  

• Labels must be in Korean or English and meet Korean customs requirements for clarity.

5. Packaging and Compliance

• Wooden packaging materials must be ISPM 15 heat-treated.

• Cargo packaging must adhere to South Korea’s Resource Circulation Promotion Act, encouraging eco-friendly materials.

• Imported goods must comply with Korean technical regulations (e.g., KSS) to ensure safety and environmental standards.
